Manx Telecom’s Pay As You Go mobile customers will be able to use 4G from early 2015, opening the incredible 4G user experience to its data hungry Pay As You Go customer base. Manx Telecom launched the Isle of Man’s only 4G network in July, with the service currently available to its pay monthly smartphone tariff customers. Over 88% of pay monthly customers renewing or taking out a new contract are choosing a 4G smartphone tariff, confirming the appetite for high-speed mobile broadband.
Since launching 4G the company has been very impressed with the customer reaction of its new network and its ability to deliver an amazing user experience. Drive tests conducted by its technology partner Huawei across the Island in October 2014 showed 4G speeds that were 10 times faster than 3G speeds achieved prior to launch. The tests also confirmed the exceptional coverage achieved, with 99% outdoor 4G coverage on main routes across the Island and at least 95% population coverage compared to 75% on the UK’s biggest 4G network, EE.
David Smith, Manx Telecom Marketing Director, said:
“4G for all has always been our goal, so we’re delighted to be able to bring 4G to our Pay As You Go customers early next year. This will allow even more customers to experience superfast 4G mobile broadband speeds for themselves and given the statistics we’re seeing from our Pay Monthly customers we’re certain they’re going to love it. This means that Pay As You Go customers will be able to download video and audio content faster, stream HD video with little to no buffering, as well as upload photos and videos to social media almost instantaneously. We also have some fantastic 4G smartphone offers this Christmas for customers wishing to upgrade their handset, ready to take full advantage of 4G in the near future.”
It will be easy for Pay As You Go customers to start using 4G; all they have to do is make sure they have a compatible SIM card and a 4G smartphone. They can check the compatibility of their current SIM card and handset by visiting www.manxtelecom.com/4g and entering their mobile number. Updates on when 4G will launch for Pay As You Go will also be posted to this page.
Manx Telecom stock the Island’s widest range of 4G smartphones, tablets and connected devices in-store and online.
