IoM lagging behind Britain on health spending

by isleofman.com 29th October 2014

It’s emerged the Isle of Man spends less per person on healthcare than England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

In the House of Keys this week, Onchan MHK Zac Hall asked Treasury Minister Eddie Teare about what proportion of our Gross Domestic Product is spent on healthcare compared to the three regions across.

In his answer, Mr Teare said in 2012 we spent 4.1 per cent – compared to 8.9 per cent in England and Wales, 10.5 per cent in Scotland and 12.9 per cent in Northern Ireland.

But ?1,834 was spent per person in the same year – around ?80 less than England and Wales, ?250 less than Northern Ireland and around ?270 less than Scotland.
