Students, jobseekers and those considering a career change are invited to Employment and Skills 2014.
The event at the Villa Marina on Thursday 13th November is an opportunity to talk to employers about the opportunities they have on offer, the training needed to enter their professions and the advice they’d give to potential employees.
Nearly 60 stands will be occupied by employers from the public, private and charity sectors, professional bodies and employment agencies.
Established exhibitors – among them representatives of the armed forces, retailing, engineering, ICT, the emergency services, utilities, hospitality, banking, accountancy and law – will be joined by new exhibitors such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Isle of Man Society of Architects and plan.im.
Many of the diverse functions of the Isle of Man Government are represented, including infrastructure, healthcare, human resources, financial regulation and the creative industries.
The event is open from 9am to 6pm and admission is free.
Employment and Skills 2014 is organised by the Departments of Education and Children (DEC) and Economic Development (DED).
Tony Wild MLC, a political member of both Departments, said: ‘The Isle of Man has enjoyed continuous economic growth for 30 years and our economy is expected to grow further, driven by the creation of hundreds of new jobs. The Government’s Vision2020 strategy has identified that in order to achieve this, the Isle of Man requires a workforce with a broad range of skills.
‘This event provides an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for employment, contemplating changing jobs or considering what qualifications they need to enter a profession to talk to employers in an unhurried environment and get the best advice.’
Almost 1,000 students from the DEC’s five secondary schools will attend the event, many of them ahead of choosing exam options.
