The Manx Museum in Douglas is the venue for the final of The Big Debate gatherings this evening (Tues).
It’s the fourth of four scheduled meetings – described by government officials as an ‘unprecedented exercise in democratic engagement’.
So far there’s been a mixed response from those taking part in discussions about the future of the Island’s government.
It’s billed as a national conversation on the big challenges facing the island – the economy, the welfare state, and the future size and shape of our government.
As with the previous gatherings, those attending tonight will be asked to record their views anonymously on a variety of issues, including reducing bureaucracy and modernising the welfare system.
Those invited have been randomly selected from the electoral register and are likely to include employees from right across the public service.
The museum’s lecture theatre will host the event at seven thirty.
After receiving feedback from the public, elements of the voting have been tweaked over the course of the past month. Minister for Policy and Reform Chris Robertshaw said he thought the format had improved.
