Fire service attends kitchen fire in flat on Mooragh Promenade

by isleofman.com 4th November 2014
Yesterday evening the Emergency Services Joint Control Room received a report of a kitchen fire in a flat on Mooragh Promenade Ramsey.  3 pumping appliances from Ramsey and Laxey along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Douglas were responded initially due to the size of the building.  Whilst these appliances were en-route the control room received further information stating that the occupant of the flat was disabled and could not make her own way out of the flat.  The incident was immediately upgraded to ‘persons reported’ which mobilised a fourth pumping appliance responding from Kirk Michael along with an ambulance.

On arrival crews quickly discovered that the fire was on the first floor.  The occupant of the flat was located on the landing outside her flat and was removed to safety on the ground floor.

2 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and extinguished the fire in the kitchen using a hose reel.  The fire was confined to the microwave and the surrounding kitchen surfaces.

The kitchen and lounge area both suffered smoke and heat damage.  Crews remained in attendance for a further 60 minutes to ventilate the flat using a positive pressure fan.

The occupant of the flat was given a precautionary checkup at the scene by the Ambulance Service.
