Post Office supports 2014 Poppy Appeal

by isleofman.com 7th November 2014

In support of the 2014 Poppy Campaign Isle of Man Post Office has announced that during the Appeal its postal vehicles will each be decorated with a poppy and its staff encouraged to wear a poppy on their Post Office uniform and attire.

The Post Office played a particularly prevalent role during WW1 and WW2 and indeed continues to pay tribute to a number of its workers who fell in the line of duty. In a year where a century on from the start of WW1 is commemorated, a number of initiatives are taking place across the UK and Isle of Man to raise funds for serving members of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force and ex serving men and women, their carers and families. In line with this, this year’s Poppy Appeal will run from now until November 11.

The Post Office's collection of poppies has been sourced locally from the Royal British Legion Douglas branch, which last year raised in excess of ?25000 for its Appeal.

The Post Office also early this year released a trench art miniature sheet and trench warfare stamp issue in support of the Royal British Legion and this is part of a four year thematic stamp series running from 2014 – 2017. In addition, it produced a special trench warfare folder with a fascinating and absorbing look at life in the trenches with a ?2.50 contribution from every sale being donated to the Royal British Legion.

Lisa Duckworth said: "The Post Office is pleased to do everything it can to support this vital charity and during such an important year. Collection points are now available around our retail network and at our delivery offices for anyone wishing to purchase a poppy or make a donation.
