A delegation from King William’s College travelled to Hong Kong last week to promote education in the Isle of Man and to further alumni and investment links with Hong Kong and China.
KWC hosted a reception at the prestigious China Club attended by old boys and girls from the College, prospective pupils and parents, educational agencies and consultants and potential investors. Also attending the reception were representatives of the Manx Educational Foundation and Black Grace Cowley International Realty. After drinks and traditional dim sum canapes, the audience heard presentations from Nigel Wood, Chairman of Governors, Peter Clucas, President of the Alumni Society and Martin Humphreys, Principal of KWC.
Nigel Wood, Chairman of Governors, commented, “It is great to see so many old friends of College out here in Hong Kong. KWC has some seventy alumni in this part of the world; they all still have a real connection with College and we want to build on that. Fostering links between the Isle of Man and Hong Kong and China is a long term strategy for us, and indeed there are many synergies between what College is doing in terms of international recruitment and the Isle of Man’ government’s 2020 Vision. We want to work together to bring bright students and inward investment to the Island.”
Martin Humphreys, The Principal, commented, “The International Baccalaureate at College is a great magnet for international students coming to the Isle of Man. We already have a good group of able students who come to us from Hong Kong and China, and we are also actively recruiting in Singapore and Vietnam. These links go back decades and have been very beneficial for the College. It is great to meet alumni who are now in senior positions in finance and the law out here. There is also a massive appetite here for outward investment, not least in education, and we see great advantages in working with the IoM government in securing this much-needed inward investment.”
