by isleofman.com 10th November 2014
If you like being challenged by ideas and creative thinking, you'll want to be part of the first ever TEDx event to be held in the Island, which opens today (Monday).
The acronym for Technology, Entertainment and Design, TED events bring together diverse speakers to give short 15 minute talks on almost anything - with the aim of promoting conversation and spreading ideas.
TED has a worldwide following and today's gathering in Douglas has drawn a slate of contrasting speakers which includes Manx blues star Davy Knowles, who will also perform tonight.
Organiser Emma Quirk says another highlight will be the appearance of NASA astronaut and former F-16 fighter pilot Colonel Ron Garan:
The event takes place at the Douglas Youth Arts Centre in Kensington Road, the day is split into three sessions, two this afternoon and one tonight.
You can follow TEDx Douglas on Facebook and Twitter and all the talks will be posted on the organisation's website.Clip 1
