Plans to charge ?25 for residential parking permits are the subject of a series of public meetings to be hosted by Douglas MHK Chris Thomas.
The Department of Infrastructure says it can raise ?100,000 by introducing the measure, one of several that include altering disc parking in the town centre and charging for promenade walkway parking.
Mr Thomas, the DOI member for planning and building control, said: 'Most agree that the current situation is not ideal. We are trying to enhance arrangements so that residents can park in their streets, and at the same time reducing disc administration and related highways and enforcement costs. I hope those affected will speak up at the meetings, write or engage via social media, so their general point of view is heard and specific issues in each street or area are raised.
'Of course, any new charge in unwelcome. But this discussion will be worthwhile if a better parking policy is developed and central Douglas parking improves.'
The meetings all start at 7pm and will be held on Wednesday November 19 at All Saints Church Hall, Wednesday November 26 at South Douglas Old Friends Hall, and Wednesday December 3 at the Manx Legion Hall.
