Ramsey fell silent at 11am on Sunday November 9th when the people of the town gathered together for Ramsey Town Commissioners’ Service of Remembrance in the Courthouse gardens to pay tribute to service personnel fallen in conflict.
The service was led by the Rev Chris Lowden and attended by the Lieutenant Governor, His Excellency Mr Adam Wood and a contingent from HMS Ramsey, a Royal Navy minehunter with which the town is affiliated.
Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Captain Nigel Malpass said: ‘The service was especially poignant this year with the marking of the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the withdrawal of UK troops from Afghanistan.
‘At the same time as acknowledging these world-shaping events the service was very much an intimate occasion that demonstrated the strength of community that exists in Ramsey. I was particularly encouraged to see representatives from so many local organisations standing shoulder to shoulder with young people, united in remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to secure a better future for us all.’
