Equiom raises a further ?12,000 for Manx Breast Cancer Support

by isleofman.com 11th November 2014

Equiom has raised an impressive ?12,000 for the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group by hosting a fundraising Ladies’ Lunch at Portofino.

This was the second lunch of its kind organised by Equiom; the first raised over ?10,000 for the charity in February.

The lunch, which took place on Saturday 18th October, was attended by 90 local ladies, including a number of representatives from the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group. It was hosted by Equiom Group’s Managing Director, Sheila Dean who is joint patron of the charity.

The event featured a fashion show from Claire Christian Couture which presented its Autumn/Winter 2014 Ready to Wear Collection. Claire generously donated 15% of all orders taken on the day to the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.

Sheila Dean commented: “I am overwhelmed by the success of the event and the generosity of the ladies who attended.  I’d like to express my sincere thanks to Mario Ciappelli and his team as well as Claire Christian and all the local businesses that donated items for the auction and raffle. I’ve received some very positive feedback following both lunches and I plan to make this an annual occasion.”

The Manx Breast Cancer Support Group was established in 2013 with the key objective of raising ?1.5 million to build a specialist Breast Unit at Nobles hospital. The unit will provide a dedicated area for breast screening and symptomatic breast clinics as well as counselling areas and a patient/family resource centre.

Julie Stokes is Chairman of the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.  She commented: “The Manx Breast Cancer Support Group is stunned by the generosity of the Manx Public. Just under a year ago we started fundraising.  Now, in the approach to our 1st Anniversary, we are about to reach ?1.1m raised and building works have commenced. We would not have got this far without the passion and enthusiasm of our lovely Patron Sheila Dean. Her Ladies’ Lunch was a fantastic success raising a phenomenal ?12,000 for our Breast Unit Appeal. The Charity would also like to say a massive thank you to all the staff at Equiom who have helped us during the past year.”
