Improvement work continuing in Athol Street

by isleofman.com 12th November 2014
Work is continuing to rejuvenate a key route in the heart of the business district in Douglas.

Athol Street will be closed from 6pm on Friday 14 November, from its junction with Prospect Hill to its junction with Peel Road, to allow the Department of Infrastructure to carry out resurfacing work.

Sections of Athol Street will be reopened to the public as the scheme progresses, with the entire road set to be reopened by 7am on Monday 24 November, or earlier if the work is completed ahead of schedule.

Diversion signs will be in place during the road closure and motorists are asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes, particularly at peak times.

Bus services will be accommodated via Circular Road and St George’s Street between 6pm and 8pm on Thursday 20 November for the switch on of the Christmas lights in Douglas.

The carriageway resurfacing will complement an upgrade of the footpaths in Athol Street. This phase of the improvement programme has been progressing well and is expected to be completed by 14 November, subject to the weather conditions.
