New terms for new civil servants

by isleofman.com 13th November 2014
Discussions are underway to look at terms and conditions for new starters within the Civil Service and Whitley Council.

They will take place within a joint working group chaired by Phil Gawne MHK, who says he's committed to safeguarding public sector jobs in return for a more sustainable framework of t's and c's.

The changes would apply to staff appointed after 1st April 2015 while terms for existing staff are protected.

The concept was included within the recommendations of the Scope of Government review in 2012.

It was also put forward in the consultation process on the proposed Public Services Commission, during 2013, and received broad support.

Mr Gawne says it's obvious current terms aren't sustainable and joint working with unions was essential to enable more cost-effective arrangements in the future.

The areas to be looked at by the Working Group for New Starters will include pay and grading arrangements, allowances, annual and sick leave and overtime rates.

No changes will be made to existing employment contracts. Clip 1
