Gawne in parking U-turn

by isleofman.com 13th November 2014

Douglas Promenade disc parking will remain at two hours.

Plans to reduce the time for free parking down to one hour have been dropped by the Department of Infrastructure after pressure from representatives of the retail sector.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says the change is likely to cost around ?200,000 in lost income from car parks.

Pay and display parking will remain on the Promenade Walkway - but free parking will now be available on Sundays as well as Saturdays and Thursday evenings in the run-up to Christmas.

The Department of Economic Development is to fund the parking measures for the current financial year.
