Two ultra-distance runners raised ?1,640 for The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects by completing a 100km run along the River Thames. Lisa Motley, Endurance Events Fundraiser at The Children’s Centre, completed the Thames Path Challenge event with her friend Jackie Campbell who is a Teaching Assistant at Ballacloan Infants’ School and St Mary’s Primary School. They completed the distance in just over 17 hours.
Lisa commented: “This was the first time that either of us had taken part in the Thames Path Challenge. It’s a great event along a really picturesque route. The first 50km was really good fun, the next 25km really tough, and the last 25km absolute hell! But it was all in a good cause and we were both pleased to finish the full distance.”
Lisa – who is a member of the Manx Fell Runners club, and Jackie who is a member of the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes Club – both expressed their thanks to everyone who sponsored their efforts. They have now collected all the funds from sponsors after they completed the run on September 13. Their fundraising total will go to The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects Mobex, Out2Play, Child Contact Centre, Community Development and the Community Farm, which all help families and children across the Island.
