UKIP Leader Nigel Farage MEP visits the Island

by isleofman.com 14th November 2014

UKIP Leader Nigel Farage MEP spoke to a packed Gaiety Theatre on Tuesday (11th November). On arriving on the Isle of Man, Mr Farage paid his respects to the fallen at the War memorial in Douglas, prior to his evening engagement.

The evening itself was an intriguing chance to hear this man, dismissed by his critics as a saloon bar philosopher, explain why he believes UKIP can offer Britain a better future and his views on why the party did so well in the recent County Council elections. It was opportunity to get to the heart of Nigel Farage’s own story too. A story that features sometimes hilarious and often terrifying encounters with a stellar supporting cast, including David Cameron, Ed Miliband, EU President Herman Van Rompuy, Gordon Brown, Nicolas Sarkozy, Jose Manuel Barroso, and Nick Clegg. It proved to be a fascinating insight into the twists and turns of politics today.

A retiring collection was held on behalf of the Royal British Legion Isle of Man branch, whose Vice-Chairman, Honorary Colonel Charles Wilson said:

"Whether you agree or not with the policies of Nigel Farage, his evening at the Gaiety did the Island's Royal British Legion and our Armed Service personnel a great favour.

The Sporting and Dining Club packed the Theatre and very kindly allowed The Legion to have a bucket collection at the end. A generous Manx public donated over ?800 to the Island's Poppy Fund. 'Thank you' as always to those who gave so generously. 'Thank you' also to the IOM Sporting and Dining Club for their courage in inviting such a controversial character and allowing our collection from a full house."
