'No quick fix' to pensions problem

by isleofman.com 15th November 2014
A government minister says there is no real alternative but to introduce tough new pension measures in the Island.
Higher contributions with fewer or delayed benefits are on their way should Tynwald next month approve the recommendations of a Public Sector Pensions Joint Working Group.
Among the proposals, MHKs could have to pay twice as much towards their own pensions while government staff contributions will also increase by three per cent.
Working group chairman Chris Robertshaw admits there is no quick fix and the position will be assessed every few years.
He expects negotiations with unions to take several months.Clip 1
