Isle of Man attempts to set a world record

by isleofman.com 18th November 2014

A mass yoga class involving up to 200 men is planned for tomorrow, Wednesday 19th November, in a bid to set a world record for the most men to take part in a yoga class in one venue. This ambitious attempt will take place at the NSC at 12pm and will end at 12.30pm.

The event is being organised by Kate Bergquist, who is the Health & Well-being Co-ordinator at the IOM College.

Kate said:

“Wednesday 19th November is a significant date because it is International Men's Day. The objectives for International Men's Day normally include a focus on men’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality and highlighting positive male role models. I couldn’t think of a better way to meet all the above objectives than to hold an all-male yoga event.”

Dave Smyth will be taking the session and leading the men through 30 minutes of Pranashama Yoga.

Dave said:

“Don't worry if you have never done yoga before, it will be a beginners class, and all ages are welcome.  Conor Cummins and Dan Kneen have already signed up to take part in the event, and I couldn’t think of two better ‘positive male role models’."

Anyone is welcome to attend the event (as long as they are male of course), Registration will be at 11:45am in the NSC main sports hall and yoga mats will be provided.

The Children’s Centre have kindly offered to help out with transport on the day if required.  So if anyone has a large number of people they need transporting to the event please contact Kate at Student Services on Tel: 648305.
