MHK slams Post Office bosses over closures

An MHK has accused Post Office bosses of taking their eye off the ball - losing business and allowing losses to mount up which have led the organisation to close the Island’s two flagship Post Offices.

Offices in Regent Street in Douglas and Parliament Street in Ramsey will shut next year after losing half a million pounds over the last twelve months. They will be replaced by sub post offices which will be opened in Spar shops in the respective main streets.
The news has been met with dismay by many members of the public. A Facebook campaign to save Ramsey’s office attracted almost 500 supporters just hours after news broke the facility is to shut.
North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson says he suspects the closures – with the loss of 19 jobs – are a symptom of poor planning:
