The Isle of Man Constabulary working in partnership with the Attorney General Chambers would like to remind people that the Weapons amnesty continues until the end of November. Up until this point the response has been very good with a number of weapons being surrendered. These have included Firearms, regulated weapons, ammunition and knives.
Inspector Mark Britton says:
“We would like to thank those members of the public who have already given in these items. We want to take as many weapons out of circulation as we can. We would remind you that you have until the end of the month to bring these items to us under the terms of the amnesty agreed with the Attorney Generals Chambers.
Members of the public are invited to bring secured weapons and ammunition to their closest designated police station to persons who will accept them commencing on Saturday the 1st of November 2014 and concluding a Midnight on Sunday the 30th of November 2014.
The Police Stations taking part in this amnesty are:
Police Headquarters, Douglas
Ramsey Police Station
Castletown Police Station
Peel Police Station
Under no circumstances should anything with a potentially explosive content be handled or transported by members of the public, let alone handed in to a Police station. If any member of the public is unsure of how to check the condition of any weapon or ammunition or if they have explosives, such as grenades, they are advised to contact Police Headquarters, Douglas and arrangements will be made for a trained firearms officer to attend their location, make the article safe and remove it safely. Members of the public are requested not to bring explosives directly to their police station even if they believe they have made them safe. For more information, call the Isle of Man Constabulary Firearms Department on 631212.”
