Major research project on addiction released

by isleofman.com 20th November 2014

The results of a major research project on drug and alcohol addiction in the Isle of Man will be unveiled this afternoon (20 Nov).
Motiv8 Addiction Services will give presentations at the Manx Museum, on a project which has examined individual experiences of dependency and the routes to recovery.
Pathways to Addiction is the culmination of 18 months work, and has been carried out by Motiv8 and the London-based National Centre for Social Research, funded by the Manx Lottery Trust.
Researchers aimed to find out for the first time, how Island residents become dependent on drugs or alcohol, and what barriers they face in trying to change.
Two presentations at the museum lecture theatre at 2pm and 7pm today, are both open to the public.
Ahead of today's event, Motiv8 said "the findings give a voice to an often marginalised and stigmatised group on what it is like to live with and also recover from an addiction and will hopefully improve attitudes and interventions in harnessing what they felt hepled them recover."
