Abacus boost support to Macmillan with additional donation

by isleofman.com 26th November 2014

Local fiduciary and fund services group Abacus have extended their support to Macmillan Cancer Support Isle of Man with an additional donation of ?1,400.

Abacus; who recently supported Macmillan when it became main sponsor of what was one the most successful Annual Macmillan Golf Competitions yet; extended their support to the local charity in a decision to donate all monies raised during their latest quarter charity initiatives to Macmillan Cancer Support Isle of Man.

Abacus and staff raised ?1,400 through its charity staff salary deduction scheme, a scheme in which staff can donate money from their salary each month into a fundraising pot which is then donated to a local charity every quarter. This was further boosted by some small staff fundraising initiatives including a prize raffle and a cake sale during a recent Macmillan Coffee Morning held at their offices. The combined total raised was then matched by the company.

Managing Director of Abacus Trust Company Limited, Stewart Fleming, said:

“On behalf of Abacus and our staff, we are delighted with the amount we have raised for Macmillan Cancer Support Isle of Man. The work they do is important and with so many of us affected by the disease in one way or another, they are without doubt a deserving charity who provides invaluable support and care to those affected by the disease.”

Pat Cook, Event Coordinator and Volunteer Fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support in the Isle of Man said:

“On behalf of Macmillan, I would like to express sincere thanks to Abacus for the support they have given to us this year. As main sponsors at this year’s golf competition, Abacus provided a Hole-in-one competition, sponsored a hole and also provided a Tipple Table on the course for the teams taking part. We managed to raise ?1,700 at this year’s competition; double that raised at last year’s event. Abacus’ help and support was without doubt integral to its success and for them to now present us with this additional donation is just overwhelming.”

“There are around 450 confirmed cases of cancer each year on the Isle of Man alone. Without donations and support from companies and individuals such as Abacus and their staff, we would be unable to continue providing funding and support to the integral services on the island for those affected by cancer. We cannot thank Abacus enough.”
