?8.9 million needed for new primary school

by isleofman.com 28th November 2014
Tynwald will be asked to spend ?8.9 million on a new primary school in Douglas when it sits later this month.
Education Minister Tim Crookall says it’ll cost around ?8.1 million to build the new Henry Bloom Noble School on Westmoreland Road.
Also included in the bill is ?880,000 for professional fees and ?265,000 for furniture and equipment.
The school was formed after the merger of Ballacloan and Fairfield schools, and it’s hoped the new building would be finished by July 2016.
The new school would have 14 classes along with a special educational needs unit and youth and community facilities.
The department says the former ward block at the old hospital would be converted and an extension built to house a sports hall, assembly and dining hall and staff facilities.
The plans also include a terraced play area and sports fields at the back of the site.
You’ll be able to hear live coverage of Tynwald on Manx Radio’s AM1368 frequency when the court sits later this month.
