Rehabilitation swimming sessions available across the Island

by isleofman.com 3rd December 2014
Manx Sport and Recreation, in conjunction with the Regional Swimming Pools, now offer weekly rehabilitation swimming sessions for all individuals with disabilities, health-related needs or recovering from injury.

The Department of Education and Children has published the Isle of Man Government Strategy for Sport.  Within it there are a number of objectives aimed at improving the health and well-being of the Island’s population.  Those recovering from ill health and surgery, in addition to those with poor health or a disability, are a key target group to support and help increase their levels of physical activity to aid recovery.

Tim Crookall MHK, Minister for Education and Children, said:  “Initiatives to encourage participation in sport and physical activity are vital in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.  These rehabilitation swimming sessions are available in the local community closer to where you live, and are designed to support some of the more vulnerable members of our society who may not consider taking part in recreational activities, due to their health related needs, injury or disability.”

Zoe Crowe, Disability Sports Development Officer, said: “These weekly swimming sessions are facilitated by highly qualified swimming teachers who can help support you as well as improve your swimming technique and style.  It’s never too late to learn, so whether you’re new to swimming or just looking for some tips to improve your swimming; our qualified instructors are on hand to help you meet your swimming goals.”

For more information about these sessions please contact the Sports Development Unit on 688592 or the Regional Swimming Pools – Southern: Tel 823930; Western Tel: 842525 and Northern Tel: 812852.
