Smart cards for bus fares

by isleofman.com 4th December 2014

School bus fares costing 25p per journey will be introduced on Wednesday January 7.

Parents are being encouraged to buy preloaded 'Go' travel cards.

Kate Beecroft, the MHK responsible for public transport, said: 'Go School cards will be available to purchase from Monday (8 December 2014). Encouraging passengers to use smart travel cards will enable the buses to run with increased efficiency and offer savings to regular passengers who pre-purchase journeys on their Go cards.

'There is plenty of time for parents to ensure their children obtain a smart card in advance.'

Three types of Go cards will be available. Go School 1 is for primary school children and valid on school days up to 6pm. Go School 2 is for secondary school children, also valid on school days up to 6pm. Go School 3 is for full time A level or equivalent students attending the Isle of Man College and is valid during college term time up to 9.30pm, along with presentation of a college ID card.

The cards will be available online at www.iombusandrail.info, by post or in person from the Welcome Centre, Port Erin station or Ramsey bus station.
