Think carefully over adopting rent rise, says Minister

Social Care Minister Howard Quayle says local authorities should think very carefully before they choose not to impose an above-inflation rent rise next year.

On Friday, his department announced it was recommending a five per cent rise for tenants - this on the day the government said inflation had hit just three per cent.

Some local authorities, including Onchan, have said they disagree with such a large increase.

But Mr Quayle says they ignore his department’s recommendations at their peril:Clip 1
