KWC offers Academic Scholarships and Awards in Sport, Music and Drama

by isleofman.com 8th December 2014

On January 17th the annual Scholarship examinations take place at King William’s College for entry into Year 7 in September 2015. King William’s College is encouraging parents with children currently in Year 6 to apply.

The College offers Academic Scholarships and Awards in Sport, Music and Drama. Pupils can apply for one or more of the Scholarships and Awards which give the successful applicants a maximum of 20% off the fees. King William’s College also offers means tested bursaries to assist with funding which may be held in addition to a Scholarship or other Award.

The examinations for the Academic Scholarship consist of papers in English and Mathematics. No special preparation is required and past papers are not available. Candidates for the Awards will be assessed separately in their chosen field. Candidates are also required to attend an interview.

King William’s College excels at Sport, Music and Drama, but the real difference is the small class sizes, which average 15 and drop as low as 10 in the Sixth Form. In 2014, 38% of all GCSE grades were A*/A, in the Sixth Form the average IB (International Baccalaureate) score was 33.7 points (which is the equivalent of more than three A*s at A level) 2 students achieved the maximum 45 points putting them in the top 0.2% worldwide. King William’s College exam results are the strongest among the Island schools.

This year, all UCAS university applications have already been submitted and College has been very pleased with the offers which have already been received from top UK and worldwide universities. So far, four students have been called for interview at Oxford and Cambridge.

Principal, Martin Humphreys, commented: “We would encourage parents who are interested in what King William’s College has to offer to put their child forward. With Academic Scholarships and Awards in Sport, Music and Drama there is a spectrum that meets a wide range of skills. College also offers means-tested fee support. The Bursar and I are always happy to meet with prospective parents to discuss the fee support which is on offer.”
