Raft of decisions for year's last Tynwald sitting

by isleofman.com 9th December 2014

Tynwald will consider a substantial spending request to build a new school in Douglas, at the final sitting of 2014.
The Department of Education is seeking almost ?9 million to build a new primary school named after Henry Bloom Noble on Westmoreland Road, to replace two existing town centre primaries.
A major report calling for further reforms to public sector pensions will also be presented to the Court.
Proposals include a phased 3% increase in pension contributions, fewer benefits and the dismantling of the Tynwald Members' Pension Scheme in its current form. Contribution rates could double from 5% to 10% if recommendaitons in the report are ultimately agreed.
Tynwald will be asked to accept new parameters for the question and answer session, including restrictions on the length of questions tabled orally.
A series of suggestions from the Tynwald Standing Orders Committee include major sanctions on any member who misbehaves.
Speaking on Manx Radio's Agenda programme (8 Dec) Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan said high standards are expected from all members of Tynwald - whether dealing with the public, staff or colleagues:
