Overnight of Monday 8th into Tuesday 9th December 2014 a yellow Ford Transit Van, registration MAN 59 B was taken from the area of Albany Road, Douglas. The van was later located in the Tromode area of Douglas on Tuesdays morning (9th December 2014) where it was discovered that a number of power tools had been stolen from within the vehicle, namely a De Walt Planer and 2 x 18v Makita Drills. The Police are appealing for anyone who saw that vehicle moving after 6pm last night or if anyone has been offered any of the power tools for sale.
Also overnight a commercial property on Woodbourne Square, Douglas was broken into by smashing a glass window to gain entry and a quantity of petty cash was stolen from inside the premises. The Police are appealing for any witnesses who heard a window being broken in the vicinity of Woodbourne Square last night, or saw anyone acting suspicious in the area.
Acting Sergeant 10 Karl Breadner from the Central Neighbourhood Police Team states ‘At this time we do not believe that both incidents are directly linked, but Police are keeping an open mind in the investigation. The hours of darkness have now increased for the winter months and criminals will use this as an opportunity as cover to commit offences. Again we would like to advise members of the public to ensure that their vehicles and properties are kept secure. Also we would like to advise that commercial properties, especially small and independent businesses ensure that they leave as little cash on the premises as possible whilst the business is closed. If you do leave any cash on the premises ensure that it is kept somewhere secure, out of sight and have the appropriate security measures in place’
Police are appealing for anyone who has witnessed the incident or has any other information to contact PC 263 Neil HASTIE at Lord Street Police Station or alternatively the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
