KWC and Castle Rushen High School CCF commemorate WWI

by isleofman.com 11th December 2014

King William's College and Castle Rushen High School CCF are commemorating the practice trenches dug by the Officers’ Training Corps in the College grounds and on Hango Hill 100 years ago.

With the help of structural engineers John Gray & Co and the KWC Estates staff, Sgt Stewart and the troops will be digging their own replica trench to give cadets an idea of what this involved.

Once finished, the trench will be used to teach groups of pupils from King William’s College, The Buchan and other local schools about life in the trenches during World War 1.

The digging started on Wednesday 26th November, exactly 100 years since the OTC started their trench, although the project will obviously take some time to complete.
