MHK defends two year non payment into pension

by isleofman.com 11th December 2014
MHK John Houghton says he will fight to clear his name, after it was revealed he is the only member of the House of Keys not paying into his pension pot.
The North Douglas member was named today after a media investigation to discover which MHK had not made a single voluntary contribution to the Tynwald Members' scheme since 2012.
Mr Houghton says he submitted a form to Treasury, asking for a monthly payroll pension deduction, two years ago.
Treasury says it was never received and it was not the job of officials to remind Mr Houghton about his contributions.
But the MHK has criticised officials for not alerting him about the matter.
Mr Houghton says he didn't notice he wasn't making pension contributions because he never checks his payslips.
He says fluctuations in salary shown on his bank statement suggested deductions were being made: Clip 1
