Wake up with a New Year Chilly Dip at Ramsey RNLI Station

by isleofman.com 11th December 2014

Undeterred by last year’s atrocious weather conditions Ramsey RNLI is once again hosting the New Year’s Day Ramsey Chilly Dip. As to be expected, the event is taking place on Thursday 1st January 2015. Registration and sponsorship money raised will go to Ramsey RNLI and also the Northern Spirit Baton Twirlers.

Ali Clague, the Station’s mechanic, who is co-ordinating the event said: ‘Firstly a huge thank you to all those who came along and supported us last year. Unfortunately the somewhat inclement weather meant we had to improvise with a Chilly Hosedown. This year tidal conditions are certainly much more favourable, and I am trusting the weather fairy to be much kinder to us.

‘Registration will be from 10am at Ramsey RNLI Station on South Promenade, Ramsey, with the dip itself taking place promptly at 11am from Ramsey RNLI slipway. You are most welcome to come along in fancy dress, although it is completely optional. On the day our volunteer crew will be on hand to give advice and will also be on the beach and in the water looking after the safety of dippers and spectators alike.

‘If you do join in the dip you are encouraged to raise some money for the RNLI charity and also Northern Spirit Baton Twirlers, a small but very enthusiastic local group who often come along and entertain at our Lifeboat Days. Registration and sponsorship forms are available from Ramsey RNLI Shop and Ramsey RNLI Station. Or you can just turn up and register on the day. But please note that a responsible adult must accompany and sign in young people under the age of 16 years.

‘And of course Ramsey’s 11am start means that dipping aficionados will have time to participate in the Peel Dip too!’
