Citywing is pleased with news that air passenger duty is to be scrapped for children under the age of 12, following the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne’s annual Autumn Statement to Parliament.
Citywing has already updated its website to accommodate the changes, which have long been campaigned for by airlines and holiday firms. Currently, air passenger duty (APD) starts from ?13 per passenger for short-haul flights between the UK and the Isle of Man. Citywing has recently introduced the lowest fares to and from Scotland on its double daily direct service to Glasgow, and it is hoped that this change will encourage an increase in visitors to the Island.
As of May 2015, this duty will be dropped for children under 12, a change which will then be extended to those under 16 in 2016. It is anticipated that this will be welcome news for families, including Isle of Man residents who will be able to save on inbound flights to the Island.
Managing Director at Citywing, David Buck, said: ‘We are delighted by the UK Government’s decision to do away with air passenger duty for young children on flights departing the country. This is a change that the industry has been awaiting for some time and, while the move has attracted some level of criticism, we believe that it is a step in the right direction.’
