House fire in Onchan this morning

by isleofman.com 16th December 2014

The Fire Service attended to the report of a house fire at a property on First Avenue, Onchan this morning.

The householder advised that the fire was within the lounge area and that all person had been evacuated from the house.

Upon entering the house the fire officers found the lounge to be on fire with visibility being at a minimum.

The cause of the fire would appear to have been a log of wood on their fire having fallen out of the fire, pushing the fire guard over and this had resulted in a nearby artifficial christmas tree catching fire.

Officer in Charge of the incident Sub Officer Chris Halsall said:

"Due to the occupier closing all doors before leaving the house the extent of the fire spread was kept to one room’. He also stated that on her return ‘the occupier had done the right thing by evacuating the property and calling the Fire Service out and not being tempted to tackle the blaze herself."
