Repairs to strengthen Blackboards bridge start next month

by isleofman.com 16th December 2014
Work to repair a bridge on a section of the Island's busiest route is to get underway in the new year.
Eleven steel beams are to be installed under Blackboards Bridge on the Old Castletown Road in a three week project starting on Tuesday 6 January.
Infrastructure chiefs say the bridge is made up of two structures - the masonry arch and concrete slab below it.
White the arch is suitable for current traffic loading the slab is under strength.
Drivers won't see much of the work underway as it will take place beneath the bridge.
But traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day Monday to Friday until the work is complete and motorists are advised to add extra time for their journeys.
