Huge response to young drivers consultation

by isleofman.com 17th December 2014
Could the driving test age rise to 17 with an extended period for the use of ‘R’ plates?
Just one of the suggestions after the Department of Infrastructure received over 1,200 responses to the public consultation on new drivers.
Other ideas raised included the introduction of curfews, limits on the number of passengers carried and a restriction on engine sizes and the power of vehicles.
Statistics on the Island show a disproportionate number in the 16 to 24 age group are involved in serious incidents.
The data collected will be assessed by the department before deciding whether to bring in any of the proposals.
