Southern generosity breaks ?10,000 for Poppy Appeal

by isleofman.com 19th December 2014
Officials at the Port Erin Branch of The Royal British Legion are still getting over the shock of the amount of money raised during the Poppy Appeal period.  In total, ?10,124 will be sent on to the Poppy Appeal from the Port Erin Branch alone.

Anita Gunn, Poppy Appeal Organiser for the Port Erin Branch said:

“I would like to thank my team of helpers who have made this possible, as well as Shoprite where in-store collections raised over ?6,500.  It is the first time ever that we have broken through the ?10,000 barrier.”

Branch Chairman, Sheila Pilling added:

“This magnificent total adds to what has been a great Remembrance period for us in the South.  It was great to see the Remembrance Sunday parade and service supported by so many in our community.  It is something we should all be very proud of. A special thanks also goes to the girls who provided the buffet at the Memorial Hall afterwards.”

Branch Vice Chairman & County Treasurer, Juan Watterson added:

“Support for the Poppy Appeal is  valuable way of supporting our servicemen and veterans of all ages. They appreciate the big attendance at Rushen, and for those who need it the Poppy Appeal and local Benevolent Funds provide help when they need it most.”
