Steam Packet responds to DoI's ferry operator invitation

by isleofman.com 22nd December 2014
The Steam Packet has issued a short response to the news government has invited expressions of interest from ferry operators for the Island's sea routes.
Chief Executive Mark Woodward says it's the Packet's belief the early negotiation of a new Strategic Sea Services Agreement would be of benefit to Island residents, businesses and visitors.
He says should the company's tender be successful, a new agreement would provide the opportunity to address any problems with the current User Agreement and would allow for the early investment in vessels and facilities.
The Department of Infrastructure has said the move is part of a strategic review of the Isle of Man's sea services - five years before its agreement with the Steam Packet expires.
There is also an option to extend the current agreement to 2026.
