Ramsey’s town centre was ablaze with light and colour after Ramsey Town Commissioners revived the Christmas lantern parade.
Held on Saturday December 20th in (almost) uninterrupted fine weather, the parade attracted crowds to Parliament Street and the centre of the celebrations, the Courthouse Gardens.
Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Captain Nigel Malpass said: ‘The lantern parade had long been a highlight of the Christmas festivities in the town so I am delighted that, with the help of commissioners, officers and community volunteers, together with the advice and support of the Isle of Man Council, we were able to revive what proved to be an unqualified success.
‘Once again the Courthouse Gardens served as the perfect setting for a large-scale community event, vibrant with colour from the LED lighting and with song, thanks to Marlene Hendy and Dilys Sowry who led the carol singing.
‘There are those who might say Christmas has lost much of its true meaning. Ramsey, however, still embodies a strong sense of tradition, family and, importantly, community which binds us all together, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year.’
