Report dismisses concerns over Cambar homes

by isleofman.com 23rd December 2014
A government inquiry into the construction of 400 Cambar-style houses on the Island has given them a clean bill of health.
Owners of the concrete panel properties, which were built in the 1970s, watched their value fall earlier this year, when it emerged some banks were reluctant to lend on them.
But a new report says Cambar homes in the Isle of Man were built to 'significantly highter' standards than in the UK.
Concerns about their lifespan stemmed from a 2002 UK report - which a working group headed by Castletown MHK Richard Ronan says does not apply here.
Home owners in Friary Park in Ballabeg formed an action group to have the matter investigated.
Mr Ronan says he has full confidence in the properties and, as a builder by trade, he'd buy one: Clip 1
