Ben-my-Chree unable to sail

by isleofman.com 27th December 2014

The Steam Packet have advised that the Ben-my-Chree has developed a fault with her starboard steering gear.

This fault means that her rudder will not respond reliably to inputs from the bridge. And as this is a critical safety issue she will not be able to sail until we have the specialist system manufacturer identify, and repair, the fault.

They have further advised that unfortunately, because of the time of year, the manufacturer has indicated that it may be some time before they are able to assist with the repair.

Mark Woodward, Chief Executive said:

‘We would like to apologise to all those passengers affected by this situation and assure you that we are doing all we possibly can to restore normal services as quickly as possible’.

As a result they are now trying to get Manannan out of her winter overhaul and back in to service to fulfill the Ben-my-Chree sailings. They have also brought the freighter Arrow into service to ensure that there is no serious disruption to vital freight services.

A further update is expected later today. Passengers are asked to contact our Reservations Team on 01624 661661 to make alternative arrangements.
