The traditional Illiam Dhone commemoration on Hango Hill in Castletown, has been used as a platform for an attack on the Manx Government's performance.
At the annual outdoor ceremony yesterday (2 Jan), tributes were paid to the Manx nationalist hero, executed on the site in 1663 for his role in handing the Island to Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War.
In line with tradition, orations were given in English and Manx.
President of the London Manx Society Alistair Kneale said Dhone's actions helped preserve traditional government and customs in Mann, sparing the Island from foreign invasion and the ravages of war.
Speakers saluted those who fought for Scottish independence in last year's referendum and declared support for campaigners in other Celtic nations seeking greater recognition.
Organisers said around 140 people attended Friday's event.
After formal speeches, the crowd was addressed by the Celtic League's Bernard Moffatt and Mec Vannin leader Mark Kermode.
Their message: the current government has let down Manx people.
