Arrests for Christmas drink driving down

by isleofman.com 5th January 2015

Fewer motorists have been arrested and charged for drink driving over the festive period.

Police say seven drivers were arrested over the period, compared to 12 in 2013 and 19 in 2012. Three people appeared in court, compared with four last year and 16 in 2012.

Sergeant Allan Thompson said: 'When comparing figures from the previous two years there is a discernible decrease in arrests and prosecutions. Drink driving can ruin so many lives and our figures, although not ideal, do show that the message is getting across and people realise what an anti-social and dangerous risk they are taking by using a vehicle whilst drunk.

'It’s in every Police Officer’s DNA to catch drink drivers and I hope that these positive figures are a picture of what 2015 will look like,
the punishment for getting caught can be so severe.'
