Children's Centre boss resigns

by isleofman.com 7th January 2015

Chief executive of the Children's Centre, John Knight has resigned after 14 years in the post.

The announcement comes in the wake of a public outcry over the loss by the charity of several government contracts.

But chairman of the trustees Mike Gardner says Mr Knight's resignation is not connected to the controversy.

He said: 'John has achieved a great deal in his time as CEO and was instrumental in creating a robust management structure which provided a foundation from which to significantly expand the range of services, both charitable and commercial, offered to families and children.

'The trustees have already begun planning towards recruiting a new CEO, and in the interim the charity will be led jointly by chief financial officer Debi Michelson and practice director Jo Thomas. On behalf of the board of trustees I wish John and his family the best of luck for the future.'

Mr Gardner added that John Knight handed in his resignation well before the controversy over the awarding of government contracts for children’s services and that the two events were not connected in any way.

In a statement, the Children's Centre says Mr Knight has been awarded a chief executive post in the care sector in the UK and will take up the job in March.

Mr Knight said: 'We have been considering a move back to the UK for over a year now, but there always has been, and always will be, something new and exciting happening with the charity – so I don’t think there would ever be a perfect time to leave. There is no doubt that my 14 years at the Children’s Centre has been absolutely fantastic and I am proud to have seen the organisation come so far thanks to the combined efforts of an outstanding team of totally committed professionals.

'The charity does an amazing job for the Island’s community and has a proud history of innovation in independent care services, which I’m confident will continue in the years ahead.'
