Mountain closed in severe weather

by isleofman.com 15th January 2015

The mountain road will remain closed until 6pm because of the ferocious weather conditions.

Meanwhile, hospital authorities are assisting visitors to Noble's Hospital throughout the afternoon. Porters wearing high visibility jackets are patrolling the car park, main entrance, A&E and Newlands, on hand to help people get into the building during storm force winds.

Gusts are reaching 80 mph in exposed locations and could be even stronger on higher ground. The south and west of the island will be the worst hit and motorists are being advised to slow down and watch out for debris on roads.

Workers have been out clearing fallen trees and branches from last night's storm. Schools are open but sports and other activities could be restricted. School bus services are disrupted and double deckers have been taken out of service because of the high winds. Visit iombusandrail.info for ful details.

For help and support with storm damage, call 850000 or 672000.
