by isleofman.com 16th January 2015

The Isle of Man Festival of Choirs is proud to host its fourth Festival of Choirs, which will take place from Friday 16th until Sunday 18th October 2015.  From its inception in 2010 the Festival has quickly established itself and is now recognised as a serious, yet friendly, musical competition of stature and attracts choirs from around the UK and Ireland and wherever choral singing is enjoyed and celebrated. The competition will be held in the Royal Hall in the Villa Marina. The weekend will begin on the Friday evening with the popular 'Welcome Evening' where choristers can meet, eat, drink, sing and get to know each other in the Villa Marina Arcade before the competition begins.

New to this year’s festival will be a Youth Voice Section for choirs aged 14-23 years. Other categories will include a Ladies, Male and Mixed Voice Section. The first two from each class will receive prizes of ?500 and ?200 respectively. Each choir will be called on to perform four contrasting pieces of their own choice, one of which will be unaccompanied. Winners of each class go through to the final, with the overall winning choir scooping an additional prize of ?1,500 and the ‘Choir of the Festival’ trophy.

The registration fee is ?35.00 per choir and the form can be downloaded from the website www.festivalofchoirs.im. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 31st July 2015.  For more information please contact the event manager on 07624 200096 (after 6pm during weekdays) / Laura@festivalofchoirs.im.
