The Isle of Man Post Office has confirmed that it is working with staff and local authorities to help them come up with alternatives to its plans for the Ramsey and Regent Street Post Offices.
 
Chairman Graham Cregeen MHK said:

“The Post Office has shared information so that further proposals could be put forward in line with the House of Keys resolution in December calling for the exploration of other potential solutions.”
 
“To protect its network of Post Offices across the Island – currently running up losses of ?750,000 a year – Isle of Man Post Office has proposed the conversion of the directly staffed Ramsey and Regent Street offices into Sub Post Offices. This would achieve an annual saving of ?360,000 while maintaining services in both towns.”
 
Mr Cregeen explained:

“Since the Keys motion was passed, the Post Office has been speaking with the affected staff and their union representation along with Ramsey Town Commissioners and Douglas Corporation.”
 
“All information previously supplied to interested parties during the closed tender process has been supplied to the affected staff, their union representation and Ramsey Town Commissioners. This information allows these parties to identify some alternative options for achieving the necessary savings and to put proposals forward should they decide to do so.”
 
Mr Cregeen concluded:

“Whatever the outcome, the Board is committed to continuing postal services in both Douglas and Ramsey town centres.”
 
As talks are on-going, Isle of Man Post Office is unable to provide any further comment at this time.
