Excellent turnout for Probus Club of Ramsey lunch

by isleofman.com 19th January 2015

There was an excellent turnout for our January Charter lunch, although several of our members had to cancel at the last minute for one reason or another.  Lunch was attended by 33 of our members, 1 member's guest, 17 representatives of other Island Probus Clubs, the President of  the Rotary Club of Ramsey, and by Sir Miles Walker who is the Chairman of Hospice, Isle of Man and who was our guest speaker.

Paul Taylor, President of the Ramsey Rotary Club, gave an explanation of the work of Rotary International and, in particular, its efforts to eradicate Polio.

Sir Miles gave an enthusiastic talk about the origins and work of Hospice, Isle of Man which was established over 30 years ago with a small “Hospice at Home” service run by a Nurse and a friendly GP. It has grown considerably, and now cares for more than 350 patients a year at an annual cost of over ?3.5 million. The many services provided by our our local Hospice are all  free of charge to patients and their families. Not all patients referred to Hospice are suffering from cancer and many are nursed at home rather than being admitted to the in patient unit.

If any one is interested in joining Ramsey Probus Club please contact the Club Coordinator Bernard Pile on sueber@manx.net or telephone 817349.
