Police say facebook comments on the recent spate of burglaries are putting people at risk.
The force has issued descriptions of two men they say are suspects in the recent spate of burglaries.
Inspector Derek Flint said: 'There were reports of a Seat Ibiza having been seen at an address in Lleannagh Park that rapidly got out of hand on social media. The public need to recognise that we are also in possession of this information, and will test the provenance of it before we make any public appeals for help with sightings.
'We have to do this to keep people safe. Circulating untested information on Facebook puts other people at risk, and people must stop doing this.'
Two suspects were disturbed by a resident in the area of Derby Square and Windsor Terrace last night. They were both described as 6ft in height, male, both wearing dark jackets, dark jeans, and both wearing beanies. One of the males was carrying a bag.
There was a further break-in at Rhenwhyllan in Port St Mary.
Inspector Flint said: 'Yesterday, we created over 130 incident logs, which is 80-100 more than we would expect to on a Monday in January. Many of these are fantastic bits of information coming in from the public. That support is what is going to crack this case, and we encourage people to keep the information coming.
'A call to us with the information is much more productive than the wild speculation that some individuals are resorting to on social media. Let us evaluate the information, and then we will get the right stuff out to the public in a timely fashion.'
