Charity must pay for amenity site use - councillor

by isleofman.com 22nd January 2015
The Chair of the Joint Committee for the Eastern Civic Amenity Site says they'd love to help charities more, but it's a matter of finance.

Douglas Councillor Bill Malarkey was commenting on the news that Manx charity Crossroads Care may be banned from using the site if they don't pay a bill for leaving waste.

The charity has been taking unsaleable furniture from its Windsor Road shop to the facility, leaving much of it in the recycling sheds.

But Mr Malarkey says its per-ton charges don't cover the whole cost of disposal and the problem has been brought about by government charges in the gate fee at the energy for waste unit.

He adds they're doing what they can to help and are not making money on disposing of the rubbish for charities - but they have to deal with them all the same way.Clip 1
